Samaki Walker (6’ 9” and 250 lbs.) power forward / center is a ten year NBA veteran. He was the ninth pick in the first round of the NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks in 1996. He also played with the Spurs during the 1999-2000 season and later signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers on 7/20/01. Phil Jackson said of Samaki, the starting power forward on the NBA Champion Lakers team, “His abilities on the floor speak for themselves this year.” In the 2001-02 season while on the Lakers he averaged 9.2 points and 8.7 rebounds. He had a season high of 17 rebounds against Portland on March 29. In his first start of the season at center (Dec. 25 against Philadelphia), he scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds.
proved himself a valuable player with the Miami Heat (2003 – 04),
the Washington Wizards 2004 to 2005, and the Indiana Pacers (2005 -2006).
Samaki had an excellent 2007-08 season playing for Al-Jalaa in the Syrian League. He had an immediate and major impact once joining his team, leading them to the Syrian championship, where they easily won. Although statistically he was dominant (25 points and 13 rebounds), it was his leadership and ability to do whatever it took to win that set him apart.
In the 2006-07 season Samaki dedicated himself as a fulltime volunteer to establish Life Choices Foundation, a non-profit organization created to improve the lives of young adults and keep them away from violence in Los Angeles inner city schools.
Samaki continues to
train vigorously and looks to build on his great European season last
year. Please contact us if there is any further
information I can provide, or if you would like to schedule a tryout.
